Casting + costume-

Casting decisions:Main actress (the young girl- Annie)- Played by Me (Lyndsey Wise)

This particular costume will be worn at the beginning
of the video when the young girl is escaping from the masked men
and getting used to her surroundings (the field shots). This costume
is similar to the costume of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and has
this iconic style which links to the idea of escaping into a new extraordinary
world.

Main actor (masked man- animal masks)- Played by Robin Lubach - The masked creatures will be shown wearing animal masks as shown left and right, there will also be a mouse mask and a cat mask. Robin will wearing contemporary fashion, for example skinny jeans and a knitted jumper with a checkered shirt underneath, this reflects the style of highstreet fashion nowadays and are the clothes you may see in particular fashion stores such as Topshop and H&M. The reason his clothes won't be of an outdated style like those of the young girls (Annie's) is due to the fact that she has stepped into the modern world where everything is new and extraordinary to her. However, a slight intertextual reference could potentially creep into the costume as in this clip of the first film made of Alice in wonderland, the bunny rabbit is shown wearing a brown jacket and waistcoat. Therefore, it could be interesting if the masked creature wore an updated contemporary style of a waistcoat.

Costume ideas:

For the beginning of the video we have decided to put the young girl in an out dated looking dress, the dorothy style dress is appealing so I will wear a white top with puffed sleeves along with a red and white dress over the top. As shown above. In order to reference to the Dorothy style of wearing red shoes I will wear white high heels with a red bow, along with a black pair as well to contrast and link to the silent movie style of black and white.

CHANGES TO COSTUME:
Due to the fact that the previous shoes shown above were too clunky and clumsy to walk in we have decided to change the shoes that I will be wearing to these sparkly gold pumps. The sparkles on the shoe reference to the sparkly shoes that Dorothy wears in The Wizard of Oz, connoting a sense of imagination and wonderland.

I have decided to wear a bow in our music video due to the fact that it links to the Alice in Wonderland image perfectly as she is shown wearing a big bow in the tennial drawings of her.

Also the particular style of costume that I will be wearing references to the image of Alice in Wonderland and links perfectly to these tennial drawings of Alice. The vintage style of her dress will be reflected in our costume, also Alice is lost in a new world everything seeming fascinating to her which links to the idea of our music video. As in ours the main character who will be called Annie is shown looking lost and even isolated in this new industrial world which is all completely extraordinary to her.

Whereas throughout the music video the costume for the young girl will change from a 50's looking dress to a contemporary fashion look which will show how their is a confusion between illusion and reality and also it will give the feel that the young girl has stepped into a whole new world. This also references to the Alice in Wonderland as she suddenly enters a new extraordinary world as the character in our video is not used to the contemporary British lifestyle it will be extraordinary to her.

Final shot list-

Shot one: The video will open in black and white with a generic opening of a silent film (a telescopic shot)
Shot two: This opens to a highly saturated shot which will be of a young girl sitting in the middle of a table playing with toys from a little wooden box. (this will be set in a garden/field)
Shot three: Cut to a close up of inside the box from the young girls point of view
Shot four: Cut to a telescopic shot of a man with a rabbit animal mask on- a low angle tilt of him.
Shot five: Cut to the young girl sitting on the table again looking surprised-behind her will be one of the animal masks (the cat) lurking behind her in the trees.
Shot six: Cut to a tracking shot of the young girl running through a field
Shot seven: Cut to a close up shot of the young girl laying down on the field looking up to the sky-and suddenly the masked man (rabbit mask) will appear looking over her.
Shot eight:Cut to a low angle shot of the young girl walking over a bridge - (possibly a tracking shot)
Shot nine: Cut to a high angle shot of her stepping foot into the city
Shot ten: Cut to a low angle point of view shot of the big shops
Shot eleven: Cut to a

POTENTIAL ENDINGS- (We have decided to film a number of different endings in order to see which one works the best when editing.)

-When the girl (Annie) returns to the table at the end of the video she could try to put the toys back in the box which then clearly fails when one of the masked men appears looming over her in a menace way. - She can never fully escape from the masked creatures.
-OR... the girl could be shown wearing the mask on the table and toys could have swapped roles and could now be controlling her instead of her controlling them.
-Our main character could be struggling to get the toys back into the box trying as hard as she can to escape from them but looks up after pushing them into the box to see a low angle tilt shot of one of the masked creatures- looking menacing.

Particular shots to include
-low angle tilts of the masked men- making them appear bigger + intensifying fear
-high angle shots of young girl at the beginning of the video- making her seem small compared to the masked men and the big world around her.
-close up shots of particular features- (shoes, facial expressions, the mask's)
-low angle shots of the big buildings around her- making them seem huge
- When editing cross dissolves will be used for the transitions as it will create the idea of their being a confusion between illusion and reality as well as giving the video a dream like feel.

Plot summary

The first shot is a generic opening to a silent film as shown left which is the opening shot to the famous silent film ‘Poor Little Rich Girl’. The idea of the beginning shot being in black and white is appealing due to how it gives the video a silent film feel to it.

.Our music video could start with a young girl sitting on a little table dressed in a vintage dress playing with toys in a wooden box in front of her on the table. In contrast to the black and white opening shot the table shot will be flickering into a bright colour. The young girl will be shown with a box which links to the idea of Pandora’s box, which refers to the phrase 'to open Pandora's box' which means when one does something that results in bad consequences which cannot be undone. This will link to our idea as the toys that the girl will be playing with which are inside the box come to life throughout the video enabling us to see the confusion between illusion and reality. This idea of the little girl beginning the video whilst sitting in the middle of a table with the box on the table is an intertextual reference to the oldest color film which was in 1901/1902.

The beginning of the film will be shown as being in a late Victorian era, meaning the costume will be of that fashion and the silent movie style will be relevant. An ellipse will take place in the music video where the young girl will transform into a young women, she could possibly be wearing a costume of a contemporary British fashion. Meaning there will be a big transformation from one era to another. This will represent the quick change of fashion but will also show how music of all eras is still listened to by many different people of different eras.

-When looking in the box the young girl will begin to play with toys which resemble three small masked men, one masked in a pig mask, one in a cat mask, bunny and mouse. It will be an over shoulder shot of the little girls hands playing with the little toys, the camera will then zoom into the toys which will then cut to them as real life people in a large field, this shows how illusion is being mixed with reality, connoting a dream like state.

Target audience for our music video

Here is a rough idea in the form of a mood board of the particular style of our specific target audience for our music video. For example what kind of clothes they would wear, what shops they would go to, what they would spend their money on and what their particular hobbies and interests are. Finding out our target audience enables us to find out what particular things they would enjoy in a music video, for example what specific costume is most appealing to fans of the acoustic/folk genre.
A influential artist and style icon for our target audience is Bob Dylan. This picture shows perfectly the black and white effect which matches his style and genre. This long dark brown coat and dark skinny jeans with big black boots shows an example of what our target audience may wear, a vintage yet increasingly popular style.

This shows the particular styles that our
female and male audiences may have.

Our music video is of the acoustic genre meaning our
target audience would find this type of music appealing
and may even like to play the guitar/ukulele themselves.

This particular shop is called 'Prim Vintage Fashion'  and has a number of vintage clothes catering for women and men. This would be the kind of shop that our target audience may go to due to the clothes being the style of several different eras. For example the 50s and 60s which brought about the rise of Bob Dylan.

Greenwich market is something that our target audience would attend due to it's independant nature, this may show that our target audience have an eccentric fashion and outlook on life.

This unique covered market with its vibrant atmosphere and commitment to showcasing designer makers, is fondly regarded as one of London's best markets.

TARGET AUDIENCE PROFILE
-For our specific genre which is the folk/acoustic genre our target audience would first of all enjoy listening to this genre of music and even making this kind of music. They may be interested in learning new instruments and experimenting with them, making new music, therefore they may also the alternative genre of music.

-Age= 16+- the reason that the age range of our target audience varies is due to the fact that the folk/acoustic genre is widely popular for a variety of ages. Influences such as Bob Dylan and his idol Woody Guthrie may be of importance to our target audience, due to their age this shows that not only a teenage audience may be a fan of this genre.

Controversial and Intriguing music videos

An example of a particular video which instantly showed the zeitgeist of Britain whilst also showing a political message is the video 'God Save the Queen' by the Sex Pistols. The beginning lyrics say "God Save the Queen, the fascist regime" this shows straight away that this is an example of anti royal and how the people of Britain may have been feeling at that particular time. What is interesting in this video is their iconic style of the black leather skinny jeans was originated back to mods and rockers which were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the 1960s. Just be this particular style audiences can be influenced due to the fact that they can identify with an aspect of the band, for example wearing similar clothing of the bands genre to feel part of something. Not only can audiences identify with the style of a band but they can also identify with their political views, gender, image, genre and so on. For example this controversial video by the Sex Pistols may have lead others to connect to the band as they may have the same political views. This gives the audience a sense of belonging meaning by following the particular image of the band they feel a part of something. In reference to our music video an iconic style and image is needed in our video to first of all fit with the specific genre and to appeal to the audience who already listen to music of the folk/acoustic genre.

Another artist who looked towards sending out a message of peace in his music was Bob Dylan who was thought of as an activist singer. His political message in his music was aiming for civil rights, some audiences identified with his music due to similar political views meaning people were drawn to his music as they could feel a sense of belonging.

The making of the Moodboard

This section of the moodboard of our ideas is the particular camera angles and styles of lighting which could be used in our music video. For example, the opening or ending to the music video could open with a generic opening shot of a silent movie as shown below. This will give our video an old fashioned feel to it which would link to the era.
