Location shots

Beginning shots.

This location which is the Plantation Gardens could potentially be used as the protagonists world- where she will wake up and explore as well as being followed by the masked creatures. It gives a 'wonderland' effect to it meaning that it links perfectly to the idea of our main character referencing to Alice in Wonderland.

Straus' theory of binary opposites will be reflected due to the juxtaposition of our locations for our video. The protagonist will begin in the plantation gardens which reflects the idea of  the wonderland due to it being an aesthetically pleasing location full of joy. This dream like location will contrast with the next location which will be the urban city, shots of graffiti on walls and a bleak atmosphere. Furthermore, the contrast between illusion and reality will be represented by the locations as well as the protagonist. This confusion between reality and illusion may lead the audience in questioning which is the reality and which is the illusion.

  1. Also try high angle shots of the table. The tartan table cover screams a bit, if you need a red cloth then I have one I can lend you. Laying props on red would be splendid and suggest red cinema/stage curtains. Lose the tartan it detracts from objects.

Box is good size - could you cover in shimmering wrapping paper to connote illusion/magic/fantasy. The brown is too dreary, think about the sort of box a child would like to open - a box that has a luminous glow, this sort of paper is available because of Xmas hovering over the horizon.

  2. Re "locations" - grafitti is splenddid, and the low angle of the tall building and the underpass, the rest too plant. The Plantation Gardens off Earlham Road near catholic cathedral offers much wonder and suggests Victoriana big time with all sorts of Victorian follies and ornamentation, people running this would only be too pleased to help that's for sure.
Garden areas must look more mysterious and wooded, think of the archive footage you have, though the band rotunda in Chapelfield Gardens is a good spot to suggest the past.
You need to aim for binary opposites (Claude Levi Strauss theory) with garden (like The Secret Garden) suggesting archive footage no sign of modernity, just table ( you could even have playing cards on the table, i.e. Queen of Hers on top of the pack for intertextual ref to Alice) , juxtaposed with harsh contemporary urban images, i.e. The Forum, Chapel Field Mall, multi story carparks, close ups of shop windows i.e.Top Shop...etc. Will discuss in lesson. There are some interesting buildings at UEA, i.e. The Sainsbury Centre.
